Virat Kohli has today completed 12 years of his international career after making his debut against Sri Lanka in 2008 on this day. He has so far scored 21,901 runs in 416 games while playing 460 innings across formats for India.

He averages a stunning 56.15 which is by far the best among the cricketers who have played over 300 innings for their country. What is more amazing is that Kohli has scored over 20000 runs just in the last decade(2010-19).

Virat has scored 70 international tons in his career so far, which is the 3rd most and the highest among active players. Only Ricky Ponting (71) and Sachin Tendulkar(100) have scored more 100s than Kohli. Adding to these impressive stats, he also has 104 fifties in his kitty.

Along the way, Virat Kohli played so many match-winning and enthralling knocks over the course of 12 years. We will look at a few of those.

Virat Kohli didn’t have the best of tours to England in 2014 scoring only 134 runs in 10 innings. But he redeemed himself in his next tour to the country by scoring 593 runs at 59.3 per innings.

He eclipsed his previous tours tally of runs in just his very first innings. On a very tricky wicket, Virat Kohli an enthralling 149 runs without much support from others and single-handedly took India to within a touching distance of England’s first innings total.

He batted extraordinarily with the tail and added over 100 runs with them. It was then applauded as one of the best innings in English soil by a visiting batsman. It was easily one of his best of many overseas Test centuries.

Unfortunately for India, his efforts were not enough to make them win as the visitors lost the test match by 31 runs.

In a must-win game for India in the 2012 CB series, Virat Kohli produced another gem scoring his 9th ODI ton. Chasing 321 set by Sri Lanka, India achieved the target in just 36.4 overs thanks to Virat’s brilliance.

The scenario was that India needs to get past the target within 40 overs to attain a bonus point and have any chance of progressing to the finals. We could say that Kohli’s 133 of 86 balls made him what he is today.
